ABOUT
I’m Jakub M. Florczak, a photographer based in SW1, London. I photograph cities, people, travel and hospitality, with a particular interest in atmosphere, detail and moments that cannot be repeated.
Photography has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. It began as a way of preserving journeys, important milestones and moments I did not want to lose. Over time, it became a way of noticing and interpreting what surrounds me.
A photograph is not made lasting
by what it shows, but by what it awakens.
Finding meaning in a fleeting moment.
I am drawn to scenes that exist for only a second. A gesture, a reflection, a change in light, or the unexpected moment when a person and place come together. Once it has passed, it cannot be recreated in precisely the same way.
I hope people can feel something of what I felt when taking the photograph, but I do not want to dictate their response. An image can hold my experience while leaving room for someone else to discover their own memory, emotion or meaning within it.
Understanding the experience behind the image.
I have experienced hotels and restaurants as a guest, through previous hospitality work and from behind the camera. This has taught me that a memorable establishment is defined by more than design. Its character is found in the welcome, atmosphere, service and details that shape how people feel within it. When photographing a hotel or destination, I look beyond the expected views. The images should not simply show the place. They should help someone imagine being there.
